According to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, 97 million adults in the US are estimated to be overweight or obese. We hear about this growing problem in the news every day, and we all know that losing weight can have positive effects on health. The chance of developing diabetes is reduced, high blood pressure is more easily controlled, and overall cardiovascular health improves. But losing weight often has other positive effects you may not have considered, as well.


Pain is something we all have to deal with as an effect of aging, but overweight and obese people tend to have more pain than others. The body has to work harder to carry the extra weight, and muscles that don’t get regular exercise tend to be more easily injured and don’t heal as quickly as those in shape.
